10 a.m. Keynote -
Dr. Suzanne Fergus discusses building materials that bridge knowledge gaps

Dr. Suzanne Fergus is the recipient of the 2016 Royal Society of Chemistry’s Higher Education Teaching Award for her sustained innovations in chemistry teaching and a National Teaching Fellowship in 2017 for excellence in teaching and outstanding impact on student learning and the teaching profession. She is also a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

As Principal Lecturer and Learning & Teaching Strategic Lead in the Department of Pharmacy, Pharmacology and Postgraduate Medicine at the University of Hertfordshire, Suzanne strives to help students bridge the gaps in their understanding of chemistry concepts. Suzanne has sought to innovate with her teaching methods by introducing pre-lab questionnaires, incorporating technology using a student collaborative online wiki that encourages critical reflection, utilising the student collaboration Peerwise tool, and sharing video resources to enhance understanding of conceptually difficult topics.

11 a.m. Create materials for your classes with subject experts

Join your colleagues and subject leaders to collaboratively build materials that will make a measurable difference in your courses.

You will work to create the resources you and your students need, with the support of your colleagues and experts in your field. Together, you will build PowerPoint decks, assessments and problem sets, lab activities, and more.

6 p.m. Join us to celebrate people who do things!

We want to pay tribute to the people at the heart of the OER movement: the faculty who are developing and using open materials on the ground. Join us to eat, drink, and celebrate our community of open education practitioners!
